Tip of the Day
Administrator Account
- If you established your own administrator account, the original
administrator account, which is established by Windows, may have disappeared. If that is the case, boot to the window where Windows
asks for a password. Then press Ctrl+Alt+Del twice.
Try Emergency Boot CD, which is free. According to its publisher,
you can use it to reset the password. There's information at:
http://ebcd.pcministry.com/
Another such program is Offline NT Passsword & Registry Editor. It
also is free. Get information at:
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/
The free programs assume some knowledge on your part. If you find
them too difficult, there also are commercial programs, for which
you must pay. Here are three:
--NTAccess, $70, available at:
http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/product.cfm?id=265
--ERD Commander, $149, available at:
http://winternals.com/products/repairandrecovery/erdcommander2002.asp
--Windows XP/2000/NT Key, $195, available at:
http://www.lostpassword.com/windows-xp-2000-nt.htm
In the password-cracking area, you could try John the Ripper. You
can download it at:
http://www.openwall.com/john/
MMC > Add Local Users
and Groups > Users > find Administrator or new name assigned to
Admin, right-click to reset pwd. See
Cheat Sheet...
